The origins of Chinese script are shrouded in mystery,
and various legends exist to explain its creation.
One such legend tells how Cang Jie 仓颉
a minister of the Emperor Huang Di 黄帝,
observed the footprints of birds and animals.
He noticed how each one was distinct and recognizable.
Inspired by this, Cang Jie drew pictures of objects,
simplifying them by reducing the number of lines
.
These were the first pictograph, called xiang xing 象形
by the Han lexicographer Xu Sheng 许慎 (30 A.D. – 124 A.D.)

Now today, I really enjoy these Chinese Pictographs.
I want to find some interesting element from them
for the visual communication design.
That is why I choose this project.

Then I decided to use four basic shapes to present my idea.

1. Circular. 2. Square.
These two shapes expressed
the meaning of the sky and the
earth in ancient China.
Then their meaning turn into present all business
and all rule.
I think they are very important shape in China.

3. Comma shape.
I find it is very interesting. It looks quite fashionable
and elegant.
It may possibly make my innovation more brisk.

4. Chinese brush stroke.
Yes this element is a quite important part in
the history of Chinese characters;
moreover,
Chinese brush is really powerful element.
It makes this project modern and traditional.

In the End, I think the grid is necessary for this project.
You know Chinese often write the
letter on the “MI Zi Ge” 米字格.
It is one kind of grid.

So this idea is from here.
hope it can help present the new
Chinese pictograph more beautiful.
